Two Pins From First
A 156 in game two, then four straight 220-plus games to close, falling two pins short of a tie for the state title.
Tournament Overview
The USBC Virginia Youth Scratch Championships, long known as the Pepsi Youth Championships, is a scratch-qualified state event. Arryn advanced out of the league level on scratch scores and into the state finals at Bowlero Mechanicsville, six games to decide the U14 Boys title.
It did not start the way anyone hoped. After a 189 and a 156 to open, he was staring at significant ground to make up against a strong field. What followed was the story of the day: a furious second-half charge that brought him all the way to the doorstep of first, 2nd by just two pins across six games.
The Charge
That kind of start can snowball. Instead it became fuel. Across the final four games Arryn averaged 235 and charged all the way to the doorstep of the title, finishing two pins short of a tie for first. Two pins across six games is how fine the margins are at this level.

Key Performance Highlights

223, 234, 235, and 248 to close, a 235 average over the final four games.
The statement game when the tournament needed it, charging to the doorstep of first.
Reset after the worst game of the day and never looked back, the heart of the performance.
Why This Result Matters
This is a result defined by what came after the bad start, not the bad start itself. A 156 in game two of a six-game scratch final, against a talented field, is the kind of hole that ends most runs. Arryn answered with four straight 220-plus games and nearly stole the title outright.
The mental toughness, patience, and perseverance on display, especially that 248 anchor, are exactly the traits that travel to every level he competes at. Two pins away from first is not a loss to dwell on. It is a standard to chase.
Acknowledgments
Thank you to Bowlero Mechanicsville for hosting the state finals, and congratulations to the champion on a hard-earned title. The champion knows how close it was. So does Arryn.
Two pins short, and undeterred. A standard to chase, not a loss to dwell on.
